Timaeus (NL, he/him) is an artist and art director based in Rotterdam. His practice focuses on speculative storytelling and worldbuilding narratives. He combines an artistic-led practice with collaborations across the commercial & cultural field, as well as educational interests.

Exhibited at Het Nieuwe Instituut (Rotterdam), Messyverse (Felix Meritis, Amsterdam), Huidenclub (Rotterdam), Dutch Design Week (Eindhoven) and during the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2024

A short film installation that intertwines rituals, historic references and urgent environmental and behavioural questions. Forming a rite of passage, the film presents a tree and a lichen with the title of Martyrdom.

ANTHROPOCENE MONSTERS

Exhibited at FIBER FESTIVAL & INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL ROTTERDAM

Installation view of Timaeus’ video work at Fiber Festival, in which he presented a trilogy setup of rotating monsters. All with their own specific theme. For the festival, which was based upon the theme of mutation, I was commissioned to create two additional monsters that explore this subject. A total of 5 monsters were presented.

‘Ruins Beyond the Veil’ is the final outcome, exhibition, and event, after a year of researching and experimenting in alternative storytelling and worldbuilding through streaming platform Future Intel. The liveshow was this time performed with an audience at Het Wilde Weten on April 22, 2022 in Rotterdam.

KLANKPOEDER - VOUWMAKREEL

Videoclip - Video work - Realtime 3D - Digital Puppeteering
commissioned by Klankpoeder

Videoclip for Rotterdam based contemporary jazz quintet ‘Klankpoeder’.

A puppeteered fish, in line with their title track, is performed and recorded in realtime. You follow the energetic fish while it navigates it’s way through neither land nor water.
