Passage through the bark

Systems have existed for as long as life itself. Natural systems are now often overshadowed by human-made systems such as technology. In Passage Through The Bark, Timaeus shows how bark beetles create patterns in trees that disrupt the flow of water. While they move through the wood, complex, almost map-like structures emerge. Timaeus translates these natural pathways into digital patterns that are generated by AI: a technology that also consumes vast amounts of water. The work invites reflection on how systems repeat, change and are reinterpreted.
