Studio Timaeus
Project: “Raytracers”
Raytracers is a series of light objects that explore refractions and the phenomenon of caustics; light rays that are reflected or refracted by a curved surface.
In it’s first iteration, Timaeus presented 3 different light objects, especially made for the Design Biennale in Rotterdam, during it’s first edition in 2025.

768 individually-adressable leds covered by transparent PETG are able to present playful light sequences that interact between light and form. The different sequences are carefully crafted by looking at the different forms of the objects in comparison as to the way the light moves across the structures.
Behind the transparent facade, a custom aluminium skeleton holds the objects in place, as well as the room where all the leds are mounted.
