Project: “Ecology on a beacon of decay”
‘Ecology on a beacon of decay’ is a hybrid sculptural project by Timaeus that investigates order and balance by combining local ecologies, sculptures, electronics and video.
Ecospheres are self-contained systems, within it’s form it is perfectly in order, but within that system there is room for chaos and unpredictability. The project symbolizes how the natural environment in the Anthropocene is subject to human influence, while at the same time posessing it’s own agency and dynamics.
Using cameras to capture the microscopic landscapes, new video imagery is generated and used as live input, presented through LED-screens. Everytime any movement is seen in the spheres, the camera’s are triggered and follow the movement. Throughout the exhibition you can see growth and decay, snails or worms crawling through, or large isopods finding their way.
By working with living matter, local ecosystems, and physical design, the project creates opportunities to discover new methods of working with the environment.
